Privacy Policy

Socratics is an app built and run by an independent solo developer ("I", "me", "my"). This policy explains what data the app handles and why. I've kept it short on purpose.
What the app collects
- What you submit — photos of your exercises, the text pulled from them, the questions and answers you type, your written attempts, and your chat messages with the tutor.
- Your account — a random account identifier from Firebase Authentication so your history and subscription stay attached to you. You can also use the app as a guest with no account. I don't collect your email address for sign-in.
- Purchases — whether you have an active subscription or credits, via Apple and RevenueCat. Apple handles payment; I never see your card details.
- Crash reports — if the app crashes on a released build, Firebase Crashlytics sends me a report with the device model, OS version, app version, and the error and stack trace, so I can fix it. Nothing is sent from debug builds.
- A few app events — a small fixed set of events (things like onboarding finished, paywall shown, purchase made) written to my database with your account identifier and a timestamp, so I can see whether the app works. These carry no device, location, or network information.
How I use it
- To produce the solutions, feedback, and study aids you ask for. To do this, my server sends the content you submit to Google's Gemini API. This happens on the server, never straight from your device, and the content is not used to train my models.
- To run your account, apply your subscription, and keep daily usage limits in place.
- To fix crashes and bugs, and to spot abuse or attempts to get around the usage limits.
- To reply when you contact me.
Who else is involved
The app relies on a few services, each handling data only to make it work:
- Google Firebase — sign-in, database, server code, file storage, hosting, and crash reports.
- Google Gemini API — generates solutions and feedback from what you submit.
- RevenueCat and Apple — handle subscriptions and purchases.
These services run on servers in the United States. I may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to deal with fraud or a security problem.
What I don't do
I don't sell your data. There are no ads and no advertising or general-analytics SDKs in the app. Apart from crash reports, I don't collect device identifiers, your location, or a profile of how you use your device.
Keeping and deleting your data
I keep your account and exercise history for as long as your account is active, so you can go back to your past work. Crash reports and app events are kept for a limited time. To delete your account and its data, email me at the address below and I'll take care of it within a reasonable time, unless the law requires me to keep something.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and stored on the infrastructure of the providers above with their security in place. No system is perfectly secure, so I can't promise absolute security, but I'll tell you and the relevant authority if a breach affects your data and the law requires it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, or state privacy laws in the US), you can ask me to show you the data I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send you a copy. Just email me. I don't sell personal data or share it for advertising.
Children
Socratics is for students. In the EU (including France) you must be at least 15, or have a parent or guardian's consent; elsewhere you must be at least 13, and under-18s should use the app with a parent or guardian involved. The app isn't for children under 13, and if I find I've collected data from one without proper consent, I'll delete it.
Changes
If I update this policy, I'll change the "Last updated" date above, and flag anything important in the app.
